A billion reasons to love art
I made a tiny, minute, utio little, nothing contribution to the $1 billion gift to the Seattle Art Museum.
The CEO of a companyI once worked for called giving like this: "Northwest Reserved." New England acts all formal, Texas swaggers, and California flaunts...but around here we just shut up and put up. We just lean back and watch and seek our fancy.
But this leads to my bigger question: What the holyfuck are these people capable of? As much as we lament rich people, here are rich people creating something that rivals the Carnegies and the Rockefellers. I love it.
There is nothing old school about them. They play on their own ballfields (literally, sometimes).
A billion dollars of art. Go figure.

How computer stupid are you?
I understand sales. Get it. Been there, done that.
But to stoop to claiming your 3 1/2-year-old child is smarter on a computer than you? That's exactly what a woman claims on a training site for software that is like an infomercial.
I have no problem saying my kid is smarter than me. But I can kick her ass at applied skills, especially the computer.
Is it fair to say that the parent who has a 3.5-year-old kid better at the computer is just stupid? Can we just call them a dumbshit? Or is the true dumbshit the person that pays 30 bucks tp be as smart as a four-year-old?

A short note on healthcare
Geeeze, am I lucky when it comes to seeing the doctor, getting treatment and making emergency visits.
On the one end, I cringed today when I saw it was almost a hundred bucks for tywo months of my meds. But that's what I pay. And they keep me healthy and active.
On the other end, I don't think I pay close to enough when I just do a $10 co-pay to see my regular doctor.
He's been my doctor for six years this month. That's even longer than any pediatrician I'd ever had! But we're in sync. In fact, his whole senior office staff is in sync with me and greet me by name. I HATE doctors, but I'd jump off the Tacoma Narrows Bridge if this one told me to. He's funny, sharp, conversational, and not afraid to say we need to try something else.
Read that last part: Not afraid to say we need to try something else.
For instance: When I first started seeing him, my blood pressure was (go ahead, gasp) 283/168.
I was a stress case with a heart about ready to pop through my ribs.
We have played around with different meds and excercise over and over since then. Plus, he liked me "Movin' Out."
About two years ago, I joined the golf club, and it turns out golf is just right for the type of excercise I need. It's perfect.
We hit paydirt...excercise and drugs had me down to 120/75. YoooHooooo!!!!
I was cruising. I got tired fast, but it was all feeling better.
I started think that these monthly checkups were going to finally end.
And then I went in today.
95/60.
Uh, oh.
That's low...we were over correcting. Humbug.
So the meds were completely re-done starting tomorrow and I am on less medication, and I need to be careful of how hard I excercise for a bit.
But my point is, if I had just been popping in and out of doctors the last six years, who would be there to catch that and understand it? It sounds minor, but I was really thinking about that today. MY doctor knows all about me. I pay very little, my insurance, I'm sure, pays a lot. I but I gurantee they would have paid more if I didn't have him in my corner the last six years.
